SWCD ANNUAL DINNER AND MEETING WAS FEBRUARY 4, 2010

Ninety-one Scott County Residents attended the 65th Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District(SWCD) Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 4th at the Scottsburg High School Commons.  The purpose of this meeting was to showcase 2009 events and to elect a new supervisor to the SWCD Board of Supervisors.

Guest speaker, Douglas Wissing spoke about his time as an embedded journalist in Afghanistan.  He was stationed with the Agribusiness Development Team.  Their mission was to help and train the Afghan farmers.

Pat Larr was elected as Supervisor for a three year term and was sworn in to office by Scott County Commissioner Bob Tobias.  She was also recognized for her 35 years of service as District Conservationist.  Award winners were recognized.  Jack and Ed Roll were presented with River Friendly Farmer signs as the 2009 recipients.  Brian and Melinda Lowry were recognized as Friend of Conservation award winners.  LL Lowry spoke about the SWCD Conservation Endowment Fund.

This event would not have been possible without community sponsors who helped offset the costs and provided great door prizes to the guests.  For financial support many thanks go to Bieghler’s Excavating, Coomes Excavating, Crop Production Services, Farm Credit Services, Fewell Monument Company, Martin Insurance Agency, Martin’s Auto Supply, R.L. Vuckson Excavating, Scott County State Bank, Scott Memorial Hospital.  Generous door prizes were provided by American Family Insurance, Jack Bridgewater Real Estate, Burger King, Centra Credit Union, Central Muscatatuck Watershed Project, Dominos, Fantastic Sams, Fashions in Flowers, Hardy Lake Friends, Jeeves & Company and T & T Excavating.  Please help to thank these folks by supporting their business establishments in our community.
