Welcome

Across Indiana, 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts - one in every county - help Indiana residents to conserve land, water, forests, wildlife and related natural resources that encompass our state's 23 million acres.
The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) was organized in November, 1945 as a legal subdivision of the State of Indiana. It was formed as an independent body under and subject only to the Indiana Soil and Water Conservation District Law. The District is responsible for the leadership in conserving and protecting soil and water related resources within Scott County. The District does not have the power to replace or duplicate functions of other local government units.
The Scott County SWCD is run by a five member board - all residents of Scott County. The landowners of the county elect three of the supervisors and the State Committee appoints the other two supervisors from recommendations sent by the local District Board.
Our Mission: Helping others help themselves conserve and protect the natural resources of Scott County.
Our Purpose: The Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District serves both rural and urban people, non-agricultural and agricultural organizations, local units of government, individual landowners and others who request assistance. We provide information about soil, water and related natural resource conservation; identify and prioritize local soil and water resource concerns; and connect land users to sources of education, technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices and technologies. |
